Secular members of Alcoholics Anonymous from across Europe will be hosting an online and first-ever eurocentric International Conference of Secular AA (ICSAA) on June 19, 2021. The conference featuring speakers, workshops, and panel discussions, will be held in two Zoom conference rooms from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm UK Time.
ICSAA brings together people who have found a secular path to sobriety within Alcoholics Anonymous and assures those still struggling with alcoholism that they can find sobriety in AA without accepting anyone else’s beliefs or denying their own. The featured speaker at this conference is Jeffrey Munn, author of Staying Sober Without God: The Practical 12 Steps to Long-Term Recovery from Alcoholism and Addictions.
Conference attendees can participate in workshops and panel discussions on such topics as underrepresented populations in AA, the importance of listening, and the structure of secular AA meetings. Neil ‘Sam’ Samworth, a former prison officer from England’s Strangeways Prison and author of Strangeways: A Prison Officer’s Story, will talk about his experiences with alcoholics and addicts behind the walls.
AA meetings hosted by various secular AA groups from Europe will occur between the speakers, workshops, and panels. There will also be opportunities to visit with old friends or to meet new friends.
There have been three International Conferences of Secular AA. In 2014, the conference was held in Santa Monica, California. It then moved to Austin, Texas in 2016, and Toronto, Ontario in 2018. The next in-person conference will be held in Bethesda, Maryland, on October 31, 2021.
